About This Call

Surface Design Association invites students to submit work for the second annual SDA Juried Student Exhibition, FUTURE TENSE II. The exhibition will be held November 5-15, 2018 at the George Caleb Bingham Gallery in partnership with the School of Visual Studies, Art Program, University of Missouri.

FUTURE TENSE II celebrates the creative work of student artists, designers, and makers working with or inspired by fiber or textile materials or techniques. The exhibition is open to all student artists working in 2D, 3D, and video formats. Up to four pieces may be submitted per artist. Works must have been completed on or after January 1, 2015. If juried into the exhibition, applicants must provide proof of student status: enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate program at the time of application, or within two years of graduation.

Entry fees are $15 for SDA student members and $20 for non-member students. Submissions must include up to 4 images (JPEG format, minimum 1200 pixels on longest side, 72 ppi, 5 MB maximum) and up to 2 video samples (no longer than 3 minutes each, maximum 100 MB each). Each image must be titled as "Submission #/Last name/Title" and include a brief artist statement (50-100 words maximum). Selected artworks must arrive at George Caleb Bingham Gallery no later than October 20, 2018. Artists are responsible for all shipping costs both to and from the exhibition, including insurance during transit. Works will be returned in their original packaging no later than December 1, 2018.

Awards include First Place ($300), Second Place ($200), Third Place ($100), and Honorable Mention (one year digital membership). Jurors are Catherine Armbrust, director of the George Caleb Bingham Gallery, and C. Pazia Mannella, Assistant Teaching Professor of Fibers at the University of Missouri. Notification of acceptance will be sent in June 2018.
