Future Tense 2025

Surface Design Association (SDA) invites students to submit work for the annual SDA Juried Student Exhibition, FUTURE TENSE 2025, held in partnership with The University of Arizona's Joseph Gross Gallery from August 19 - November 21, 2025. The exhibition will celebrate the creative work of student artists, designers, and makers working with or inspired by fiber or textile materials or techniques. All SDA member and non-member students working in any media are encouraged to apply.

Up to three original works completed after January 1, 2023 may be submitted per artist. Eligible formats include 2D, 3D, video, and audio works. Submissions must include up to six images total (full and detail shots), with images in JPEG format at 1200 pixels minimum on the longest side, 72 ppi resolution, and 5 MB maximum file size. Video submissions must not exceed 700 MB, be in mp4 format only, and have a maximum duration of 3 minutes. Audio files must not exceed 10 MB. A brief artist statement (100-150 words maximum) must accompany submissions. Entry deadline is May 18, 2025. Entry fees are $20 for SDA student members and $25 for non-member students.

Exhibiting artists are eligible for four awards: First Place ($300), Second Place ($200), Third Place ($100), and Honorable Mention (SDA Award of Excellence). The juror is Ann Morton, a practicing artist and instructor at Mesa Community College. Artist notification is June 17, 2025, with work due at the gallery by July 21, 2025. Artists are responsible for shipping costs and insurance during transit. Work will be insured while at The University of Arizona's Joseph Gross Gallery. Accepted artwork must be available for the duration of the exhibition and may be photographed for advertising and publicity purposes.
