The exhibition will be held at The Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery at University of Nebraska–Lincoln from February 23 – April 23, 2023. Exhibiting artists are eligible for four awards recognizing excellence in artistic practice. FUTURE TENSE 2023 will celebrate the creative work of student artists, designers, and makers working with or inspired by fiber or textile materials or techniques. All SDA member and non-member students working in any media are encouraged to apply.
Eligibility is open to all student artists, defined as someone engaged in a mentor/mentee relationship with a knowledgeable instructor for the purpose of gaining instruction. Up to three pieces may be submitted per artist. 2D, 3D, video and audio works are eligible. Entries must be original work completed after January 1, 2021. Work must not exceed 7'x7', and ceiling-suspended work components must not weigh more than 5 lbs. Artists may submit up to 6 images total, with a minimum of 2 work samples required. Awards include First Place ($300), Second Place ($200), Third Place ($100), and Honorable Mention (SDA Award of Excellence). The entry deadline is December 18, 2022. Notification of acceptance will be sent January 7, 2023. Selected works and exhibit agreement are due February 2, 2023. An in-person/virtual reception is scheduled for March 29, 2023.
