Future of the Arts 2018

Future of the Arts 2018 is a juried competition held annually in January at the R.G. Endres Gallery. The exhibition runs throughout January with an awards Gala Reception on January 11th at 6:00 PM.

Eligibility is open to all residents of the Kansas City metro area and surrounding suburban cities, for children in grades 1-12 who attend public, private, and home schools. Eligible artwork includes all 2D and 3D art of any media, performance art including music, theatrical performance including dance, and all forms of literature. All artwork must be created by or performed by the student. Participants are organized into designated age groups: grades 1st-3rd, 4th-6th, 7th-9th, and 10th-12th.

For 2D and 3D art, up to 3 pieces can be submitted per artist with a $5 entry fee per student entry. For performances, a short two-minute video is required. For literature, a photograph of the complete work is required. Each student may enter multiple times, though only one piece per artist will be selected for the final round of judging. The entry deadline is December 2, 2018, with notification of acceptance on December 12, 2018. Framed artwork is due December 31, 2018, and exhibit installation is January 1, 2019.

Prizes include art scholarships, supplies, and enhancements totaling more than $1,800 in value, including four $300 college scholarships for senior winners. Gift awards are given to winners of each age group. All tangible artwork must be for sale with a 30% sales commission to the gallery. Prices are binding and cannot be changed after submission. Top literature selections will read their pieces live at the Gala Reception. Top performance selections may be asked to perform live, with the juror choosing the winner that night.
