About This Call
The Virginia Beach Art Center invites submissions for Fusion Mid-Atlantic 2019, a showcase of mixed-media artwork from the Mid-Atlantic states. Artists from South Carolina to Pennsylvania are invited to exhibit work combining two or more media.
Eligibility: Open to artists 18 or older residing in SC, NC, VA, DC, MD, DE, or PA. Artwork must incorporate at least two distinct media. All work must be original, created without instructor or kit assistance, and produced within the last two years. Digitally produced artwork must have additional media added after printing. All styles and aesthetics are considered. Artwork must be appropriate for all viewers and must remain on premises for the exhibition duration. Artists must include an interpretative statement (limit 1000 characters).
Submission Details: Submit up to three artworks via CAFE (callforentry.org). Entry fee is $35 (non-refundable). Work sample requirements: 1-3 images. Exhibition runs July 5-August 11, 2019. Opening reception is July 5, 6:30-8:30 pm. Notifications sent May 31. Shipped works must arrive June 22-July 2; hand-delivered works accepted June 29-July 2. Pick up or return shipping August 12-13.
Juror: Robert Sites, MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art. His work has been exhibited at ArtExpo New York, Red Dot Miami, the Biennale Internazionale Arte di Palermo, and ArtPrize. He is a retired professor of Fine Arts at Norfolk State University.
Awards: $4,000 total in cash awards including Best in Show ($1,000), Award of Excellence ($700), Award of Merit ($500), Most Creative ($400), Most Experimental ($400), and four Honorable Mentions ($250 each).
Work Specifications: Maximum weight 40 pounds. Hanging works (2D) may not exceed 30"x30" including frame and must not protrude more than 12" from wall. Works must be wired for hanging with flexed wire minimum 3 inches from top of frame. Free-standing (3D) works may not exceed 24" in length or width. Gallery wraps accepted if image continues on all four sides.
Sales Commission: 65% to artist, 35% to Virginia Beach Art Center. Payment made within 30 days of exhibition closing. Artist responsible for shipping costs both directions. Pre-paid return labels required via UPS or FedEx. Virginia Beach Art Center not responsible for damage; artists should insure works and purchase shipping insurance.
