Functional Fall: Put A Lid On It

Clay Art Center announces a call for entry to "Functional Fall: Put A Lid On It," the second annual functional fall exhibition. This guest-juried exhibition, judged by Doug Peltzman and Jen Allen, presents lidded ceramics and encourages submissions from artists at all stages of their careers. The jurors state: "This exhibition of lidded ceramics spotlights the concept of containment with the intent to hold, store, commemorate, memorialize, and celebrate. The lidded pot spans millennia. From the physical need of preserving food to the spiritual need for ceremonial objects, the lidded pot is - and always has been - essential to survival. Contemporary makers continue to explore this realm of object-making in exciting and unpredictable ways. This exhibition hopes to bring together a powerfully diverse grouping of lidded pots that speak to our times in addition to our histories."

Submission Period: February 1st – May 20th, 2024. Exhibition dates: September 1st – October 12th, 2024. Juror prizes: $300 and $100. Entry fee: $25. Artists must submit 1-3 images of no more than 3 artworks. Each work must include title, medium, dimensions, price/value, year completed, primary discipline, and description (300 character limit). Artist statement required (up to 1000 characters, excluding artist name).

Eligibility: US-based artists, 18 years or older. Works must be made within the last two years and available for sale at time of exhibition. Primary medium must be ceramic/clay (at least 85%). Works cannot be listed elsewhere for sale during the exhibition. Gallery commission is 40% of selling price. Work must remain in gallery until exhibition ends. Hand-delivered artwork must be picked up at end of exhibition; shipped work will be returned at CAC's expense. Adjudication: May 21st – May 31st, 2024. Notification by June 10th, 2024. Work reception: August 12th – 16th, 2024. Work returned by end of October 2024.
