About This Call
Atlantic Gallery, located in the historic Landmark Arts Building in Chelsea, invites artists to submit work for the upcoming juried exhibition "Functional Aesthetics: Contemporary Art in Use" running March 10-28, 2026. This exhibition will bring together inventive, hand-made, and uniquely designed works that expand the definition of functionality in contemporary art and everyday life, exploring the intersection of art, craft, and design. The show welcomes submissions of jewelry, clothing, wearable art, kitchenware, lighting, ceramics, glasswork, textiles, furniture, household objects, stationery, artist books, musical instruments, and sound-producing works.
The exhibition will feature a special weekend program on March 14, creating a "market-meets-salon" atmosphere where visitors can experience pieces in use - drinking from ceramic cups, trying on jewelry, or sitting with furniture - turning the gallery into a living space. Participating artists will be present to converse with audiences and explore connections with their work. Juror and curator Raluca Anchidin will award one artist a prize featuring promotion on the Atlantic Gallery website, newsletter, and a one-week Instagram takeover.
Entry fees are $35 for non-members ($30 for gallery members) for up to three works, with $5 for each additional work up to five total. All accepted artworks must be available for display and sale during the exhibition period, with Atlantic Gallery taking a 40% commission on sales. Artists must provide detailed hanging instructions for suspended 3D work (maximum 15lbs) and specify display requirements. Notification of acceptance will be sent January 30-31, 2026, with art drop-off March 3-7 and pickup March 28 or March 31-April 4.
