About This Call
Fun House: Art of the Surreal, Fantastic and Bizarre is a national juried contemporary art exhibition. The exhibition invites established and emerging artists to submit works that celebrate the marvelous, disorienting, fantastic, disquieting, and surreal. Artists are invited to submit surprising works that engage with the real/unreal, the miniature and the gigantic, optics and illusion, and/or the politics of display. The exhibition will be installed throughout Barrett Art Center's 1830s Greek Revival townhouse, utilizing all three floors of galleries and studios, multiple staircases, and hidden closets and corners.
Eligible visual media include drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, installation art, glass, ceramics, fiber, and mixed media. Performance art and wearable art are not eligible. Two-dimensional work cannot exceed 40 inches along any side, including the frame. Work must be original in design, concept, and media, completed within the last three years, and cannot be student projects or previously exhibited at Barrett Art Center. Three-dimensional work and installations require contacting Barrett Art Center regarding facilities and installation limitations.
Entry deadline is May 29, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Entry fee is $25 for up to three works ($20 for Barrett Art Center members), with an additional $5 per image for extra works. Artists may submit 1-3 images. Notification of acceptance will be sent by June 8, 2016. Accepted work must be delivered between July 6-8, 2016. Exhibition dates are July 23 – September 3, 2016, with an opening reception on Saturday, July 23, 3pm-5pm. The juror is Eve Biddle, Co-Executive Director of the Wassaic Project. Three cash prizes and two honorary awards will be selected by the juror and announced at the opening reception. A gallery of selected works will be displayed on the Barrett Art Center website after the opening. Barrett Art Center retains a 25% commission for member sales and 40% for non-member sales. Open to all artists residing in the United States, age 18 or older. For questions, contact [email protected] or (845) 471-2550.
