About This Call
Legacy Hall, the new home of the Florida State University College of Business, officially opens January 6, 2026. The $160 million, 220,000 gross square foot building is located at the corner of West Gaines Street and MLK Boulevard, overlooking Burnette Park, serving as the new Southeast gateway to the University.
The Committee is seeking site-specific artwork for three interior locations: Site A, a 16' x 9' wall on the ground floor outside the auditorium; Site B, a ground-floor ramp area that could accommodate two-dimensional, mural, or three-dimensional/low relief artwork; and Site C, a 27' x 10' wall on the first floor opposite a high-traffic stairwell. Artists may submit for any or all three sites. Proposed artwork should reflect Legacy Hall's role as the Southeast gateway and explore themes such as engagement, social impact, integrity, excellence, and community. Artwork may draw inspiration from North Florida's natural environment or the building's function as a hub for connection, collaboration, and learning. Video, projection, and digital media requiring software updates or ongoing technical maintenance are excluded.
The total budget is $100,000. Finalists will receive a $2,000 honorarium to create a detailed proposal, with remaining funds divided among up to three selected artists for design, engineering, materials, fabrication, transportation, delivery, installation, and associated expenses. Artwork must fit within specified dimensions, require no water or electricity, be made of permanent materials requiring minimal maintenance, discourage theft and vandalism, withstand public touching with no sharp edges, and meet all applicable codes. The artwork will be owned and maintained by Florida State University. Entry deadline: February 27, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. EST. Finalists will be notified March 31, 2026. Finalists' proposal deadline: May 29, 2026. Final selections announced June 30, 2026. Installation targeted for December 2026.
