About This Call

Front Range Community College is seeking qualifications from artists and artist teams interested in creating site-specific exterior public artwork or a series of artworks for the new Health Care Careers Center in Fort Collins, Colorado. The total budget for this opportunity is $158,400, with a submission deadline of May 20, 2019.

The Health Care Careers Center is a two-story, 61,000 square foot facility opening in summer 2020 at the intersection of Harmony Road and Shields Street on FRCC's Larimer Campus. The Art Selection Committee is looking to commission artwork for multiple possible exterior sites: the plaza area southeast of the main building entrance, the north side of the building along Harmony Road, and in or near the pollinator garden east of the building. The committee is particularly interested in proposals featuring multiple artworks in a series utilizing various exterior sites. Artwork must be freestanding and cannot attach to the building. The selection committee will evaluate proposals based on artistic excellence, technical competence, conceptual compatibility, scale, material, form and content, appropriate relationship to site and campus function, resistance to wear and vandalism, and ease of maintenance including ability to withstand Colorado's intense sun, snow, wind, and temperature extremes.

Applicants must submit 6-8 digital images of previously completed artworks, a current resume, and a statement of interest of 250 words or less via the CaFÉ online platform. There is no application fee. Selected semi-finalists will be invited to propose artwork and will receive an honorarium: $1,500 for out-of-state artists and $1,000 for in-state artists. All project costs including design fee, structural engineering, insurance, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, and documentation are covered by the budget. Artists from Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region are encouraged to apply.
