About This Call
The City of Frisco Public Art Program is issuing a Request for Qualifications for public art opportunities within the Frisco Public Library expansion project. This opportunity is open to all artists and consists of two project components: Decorative Guardrails and Handrails ($440,000 budget) and Lobby Ceiling Installation ($150,000 budget). The City reserves the right to award both parts to the same artist or separately. Finalists will receive $3,000 per artist to create design concepts.
The new Frisco Public Library will be a state-of-the-art facility designed to serve as a community destination. The building design is inspired by the Texas Blackland Prairies and early Texas dogtrot architecture. Artwork must be appropriate to a modern library and integrate well with the building design. The Decorative Guardrails and Handrails should provide a connective visual element from the lobby to the mezzanine using durable, tactile materials suitable for high-touch areas. The Lobby Ceiling Installation should welcome visitors with an impressive visual statement and can include lighting. Both artworks must be safe, made of low-maintenance durable materials, and installed by August 2022.
Applications must be submitted online via www.callforentry.org by 4:00 p.m. CDT on Wednesday, March 31, 2021. Submissions must include a cover letter, artist resume, artist statement, three references, and 10-15 images of past work (with the first five being most relevant to the project). The Artist Selection Committee will evaluate qualifications based on demonstrated excellence, professional qualifications, stated interest in the project, and ability to meet project goals. Design concepts will be evaluated on relevance to the library project, originality, and artwork sustainability. Questions should be submitted to Stephen Ross at [email protected] by 4:00 p.m. CDT on Friday, March 19, 2021.
