Fresh Squeezed 6: Emerging Artists in Florida

The Morean Arts Center in St. Petersburg, FL invites emerging artists currently residing in Florida to submit entries for the sixth annual Fresh Squeezed: Emerging Artists in Florida exhibition, held April 9 – June 23, 2022. The Morean Galleries will be divided into six spaces, giving each selected artist essentially a solo exhibition. Works in any medium are accepted, and community-oriented, site-specific installations are encouraged. Selected artists will have opportunities to participate in artist panels and gallery talks during the exhibition. Morean staff will work closely with selected artists to assist in photographing, pricing, and marketing their work.

Eligibility is open to emerging artists age 18 or older who are current Florida residents. The Morean defines an emerging artist as one who has never had a solo show in Florida (a solo show constitutes an exhibition in a gallery, arts center, or museum of at least three weeks with an opening reception; solo BFA or MFA shows at colleges or universities are acceptable). All work must be original, completed within the last two years, and not previously exhibited at the Morean. Submissions should include a brief biography and artist statement (1 page/3000 characters or less) and 5 to 10 images of work (or up to 5 video files). For site-specific installations, include a schematic drawing and description of how you would incorporate a specific space.

Entry fee is $15. Accepted work may be hand-delivered or shipped (pre-paid) to arrive no later than April 1, 2022. Work will be insured for the duration of the exhibition while on site. The Morean retains a 40% commission on all works sold during the exhibition, with artists paid within 30 days of the close. Unsold works originally shipped to the Morean will be shipped back at the Morean's expense. Acceptance notifications will be sent December 1, 2021. The opening reception is April 9, 2022, 5-8pm.
