About This Call
The Morean Arts Center in St. Petersburg, FL invites emerging artists currently residing in Florida to submit entries for Fresh Squeezed: Emerging Artists in Florida, the fifth annual exhibition. The exhibition will be held April 10 - June 24, 2021. The purpose is to nurture and advance the careers of emerging visual artists while giving the community the opportunity to discover new art being made in the region.
The Morean Galleries will be divided into five spaces, giving each selected artist essentially a solo exhibition. Works in any medium are accepted, and community-oriented, site-specific installations are encouraged. Selected artists will have the opportunity to participate in artist panels and gallery talks during the exhibition to interact with potential collectors. Morean staff will work closely with selected artists to assist in photographing, pricing, and marketing their work.
Eligibility: Open to emerging artists age 18 or older who are Florida residents. The Morean defines an emerging artist as one who has never had a solo show in Florida. A solo show constitutes an exhibition in a gallery, arts center, or museum of at least three weeks with an opening reception (solo BFA or MFA shows at colleges or universities are acceptable). All work must be original, completed within the last two years, and not previously exhibited at the Morean.
Submission requirements: Include a brief biography and artist statement (1 page/3000 characters or less) and 5 to 10 images of work, or up to 5 video files. Work must be completed within the last two years. For site-specific installations, include a schematic drawing and description of how you would incorporate a specific space, indicating which space you are interested in.
Entry fee: $15. Accepted work may be hand-delivered or shipped (pre-paid) to arrive no later than April 1, 2021. The Morean will ship unsold works back to the artist at the Morean's expense. Sales are encouraged and the Morean retains a 40% commission on all works sold. Artists will be paid for sold works within 30 days of the close of the exhibition. Acceptance notification: December 1, 2020. Opening reception: April 10, 2021, 5-9pm. Pick-up/return of work: June 25-30, 2021.
