About This Call
The Visual Art League of Lewisville announces a call for entries for the Fresh Ideas 2020 juried competition. The exhibition will be held at the Medical City of Lewisville Grand Theater art gallery (2,000 sq. ft. main gallery) from July 18 – August 15, 2020. The show is open to all visual artists who reside in Texas.
Artists may submit up to three original 2D and 3D artworks created in the last two years that have not previously been shown in any VAL exhibits. Accepted mediums include: oil, watercolors, acrylics, pastel, mixed media, collage, books, drawing, prints, photography, ceramics, glass, textiles, fiber, encaustic, jewelry, and sculpture. Entry fee is $75 for non-members (includes one year VAL membership) or $40 for VAL members. Submission deadline is June 30, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. CDT via Callforentry.org.
Artwork requirements: 2D hung work maximum 60" x 60" including frame, equipped with d-rings and wire for hanging. 3D freestanding artwork must securely sit on a pedestal no larger than 20" x 14", rest on the floor, or safely hang by wire. No explicit nudity, confrontational political, or disrespectful religious artwork. Accepted artists will be notified July 4-5 and must hand-deliver work to the gallery by July 14, 5:00 p.m. Opening reception is July 18 at 7:00 p.m. with award ceremony at 8:00 p.m. All accepted works must remain on exhibit for the duration of the show. Artists are required to sit the gallery for one half day during the exhibit; curators will coordinate substitutions for artists outside the immediate area.
Awards: 1st Place $1,000 cash prize and solo show summer of following year; 2nd Place $500; 3rd Place $250; Four Honorable Mentions $100 each; People's Choice Award $100. Juror: Robertus van der Wege, career artist, arts educator, and arts administrator with degrees from Western Michigan University, University of Hawaii, and Northern Illinois University, plus certificate in Arts Management from Harvard Business School.
