About This Call

"Freedom of Expression: A CCMoA National Juried Exhibition" will be held at the Cape Cod Museum of Art from March 10 - May 14, 2017, in conjunction with ArtWeek Boston (April 28 – May 7, 2017) and ArtSpring Cape Cod (April 28 - May 14, 2017). The exhibition theme is drawn from Tom Stoppard's play "Every Good Boy Deserves Favor," which critiques the former Soviet Union's policy of declaring political dissent as a form of mental illness. The broad theme assumes that free expression can be a doorway to creativity, taking many forms literally and figuratively. Three distinguished jurors from the Boston area will make selections: Jared Bowen (Executive Arts Editor at WGBH), Paul Ha (Director of the List Visual Arts Center at MIT), and Edith A. Tonelli, Ph.D. (Artistic Director of the Cape Cod Museum of Art).

Acceptable work includes 2D and 3D work in all media and videos. All work must be original and created in the last 3 years. 2D work must be framed without glass or with Plexi-glass, with a maximum size of 48"x 48" in any direction. 3D free standing pieces have a maximum of 72"h x 36"w x 36"d; pedestal pieces have a maximum base of 18" x 18". Work must be exhibition ready with appropriate hardware and technical equipment. No Saw Tooth hangers or clips are permitted. Each submission must be labeled on the back with artist's name, title, medium, and date of creation. Collaborations and complex installations will be considered if artists are prepared to install and remove at their own expense with a detailed installation description provided.

Awards include a $1,000 Directors' Prize for the work that best portrayed Freedom of Expression (chosen jointly by jurors and museum directors), a $500 Jurors' Choice Award, and three Honorable Mention Awards. Entry fee is $35.00. Submissions require 1-3 images and an artist's statement of 100 words maximum. Notification of acceptance will be sent via email on or before February 20, 2017. All accepted work must remain in the gallery for the duration of the exhibition. Work must be delivered or mailed by March 3, 2017. The museum takes no commission; donations to the Exhibitions Programs are appreciated.
