Freedom

Studio Montclair presents "Freedom," an exhibition commemorating Black History and Women's History Months. From Romare Bearden to Emory Douglas, from Faith Ringgold to Kathe Kollwitz, artists have been at the forefront in the fight for freedom, whether it be creative, political, or spiritual. In honor of Black History and Women's History Month, Studio Montclair invites creatives to submit works that explore how art inspires resistance, challenges boundaries, and catalyzes change.

Artists are invited to respond to these concepts in styles ranging from bold abstraction to intimate figuration, and in mediums spanning painting, sculpture, photography, textiles, and mixed media. All mediums are accepted including videos and installations. The exhibition will be held at Studio Montclair's Leach Gallery, 641 Bloomfield Avenue, Montclair, NJ from January 30 - February 27, 2026.

Entry fee is $37 for non-members (Studio Montclair members enter free). Artists may submit a maximum of 3 works with 1 JPEG image per work. 2D work maximum of five feet in any direction including frame, not to exceed 30 lbs. 3D wall work maximum 4 feet in any direction, maximum 12 inches in depth. Sculpture not to exceed 3 feet in any direction. Studio Montclair retains 30% on all sales. Exhibiting artists within 25 miles are required to gallery sit for minimum 2 hours or pay $40 fee.
