About This Call
The Village of Palmetto Bay is inviting professional artists to submit proposals for an Art in Public Place piece suitable for the Franjo Road Traffic Circle. The project is part of a larger initiative to transform Franjo Road into a pedestrian-friendly street with infrastructure improvements including new traffic circles, bike lanes, turn lanes, and street furnishings. The art piece should foster a sense of place, enhance the traffic circle, be appropriate for public space, and reflect the beauty of Palmetto Bay while providing a focal point at the Main Street location.
The Traffic Circle has water connection and power service available if needed. Materials must adhere to structural engineering standards of Miami-Dade County and withstand harsh outdoor elements. The project budget ranges from $80,000 to $125,000, with a proposed timeline of 10 weeks for design and 8-10 weeks for construction.
This is an open call for all artists—emerging and established, individuals and artist-led teams—working with a variety of mediums. Prior public art experience is not required. Applicants should have completed projects for private clients, public agencies, or grassroots/community projects. Applications will be evaluated by the Art in Public Places Advisory Board comprised of arts professionals. A complete application consists of: a brief statement (maximum 1 page) describing your medium and relevant experience; a professional CV/resume (maximum 2 pages); 6-10 digital images (JPG format) of completed artworks or projects; and an ID sheet for each image listing budget, title, medium, dimensions, date, and 1-2 sentences of explanatory text. All documents must be submitted as PDFs. For team applications, include resumés for all members and indicate each member's role. The entry deadline is June 7, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. MDT.
