About This Call
Framed: Shadow and Light is a photography exhibition themed around shadow and light. The call seeks contemporary interpretations of how shadow and light function in photography, including dramatic shadows and patterns in black and white images as well as ethereal and moody shadows and textures in color photography.
The juror is Todd Johnson, founder and director of Black Box Gallery, who holds an MFA in Photography from the San Francisco Art Institute. Johnson has extensive experience as a portfolio reviewer, independent curator, and arts educator with 25 years in arts administration and education. His photographic work has been exhibited nationally and regionally.
Submissions must include 1-5 images. Entry fee is $40.00. The deadline is August 12, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Up to 5 applications per artist are allowed. The exhibition runs September 1-20, 2021. The juror will select 24 photographs for exhibition at the gallery and an additional 30 photographs for the online gallery annex. All 54 photographs will be included in a catalog available for purchase on Blurb Books.
Black Box Gallery provides free printing, matting, and framing for all exhibitions. Prints are produced on an Epson Stylus Pro archival inkjet printer on Epson Premium Luster Photo paper in a color-calibrated environment. Frames are 18" x 24" black frames with white mats pre-cut for 12" x 18", 12" x 12", and 12" x 16" prints. Exhibition prints are kept in a flat file after the show for future sale and promotion. Black Box Gallery takes a 50% commission on all sales, with 50% going to the photographer. Artists may request that prints not be for sale and be used for exhibition and promotion only. All rights remain with the photographer, and no sale or printing will occur without prior consent. Exhibition prints will be shredded after 5 years in the flat files.
