Framed: Shadow and Light

Black Box Gallery is hosting a juried group photography exhibition on the theme of shadow and light. The exhibition seeks contemporary interpretations of how shadow and light function in photography, including dramatic shadows and patterns in black and white imagery as well as ethereal and moody shadows and textures in color photography.

The juror is Todd Johnson, founder and director of Black Box Gallery, who holds an MFA in Photography from the San Francisco Art Institute and has 25 years of experience in arts education and curation. The exhibition will feature 24 photographs selected for display at the gallery (March 1-20, 2023) and an additional 30 photographs for the online gallery annex. All 54 photographs will be included in a catalog available for purchase on Blurb Books.

Black Box Gallery provides free printing, matting, and framing for all selected work. Prints are produced on an Epson Stylus Pro archival inkjet printer on Epson Premium Luster Photo paper in a color-calibrated environment. Selected photographers must provide high-resolution TIFF or JPEG files. Exhibition prints are retained in the gallery's flat files after the show for promotion and future sales. Black Box Gallery takes a 50% commission on sales, with 50% going to the photographer. All rights remain with the photographer, and no sale or printing occurs without prior consent. Entry fee: $40. Photographers may submit 1-5 images. Open to international photographers.
