About This Call

Fox Meadows Neighborhood Park is a 9-acre parcel located just south of Ninth Avenue in east central Longmont, west of Weld County Road #1. The site is in one of the oldest areas of town not currently served by a neighborhood park. The park is expected to include a nature-themed playground, basketball court, picnic shelter, sledding hill, bocce court, planting beds, perennial gardens, and other amenities. A public artwork will be seamlessly incorporated into the park design, with the selected artist working directly with the Parks team.

The Art in Public Places Commission, in partnership with the Parks Department, is requesting qualifications and professional samples of past public artworks for consideration. From this Request for Qualifications (RFQ), three finalists may be selected to present design concepts. Finalists will be paid an honorarium to develop and present their artwork design concepts. Construction begins in 2024, with installation expected spring 2025.

Applications must include: a letter of interest and preliminary statement of approach (without identifying information); 5-10 images of fabricated and installed public artwork completed within the past ten years (no more than 2 images per project); and a professional résumé or CV highlighting public artwork commissions and sculpture installations. Design concepts should be suitable for general public viewing, may reflect or be inspired by Colorado plains animals and plant life, and may be kinetic. Concepts cannot be construed as signage or wayfinding, and should not include music, encourage climbing, or be used for skate park activities. Artwork must be constructed of durable materials with a lifespan of at least twenty years and low maintenance requirements. The artwork budget is up to $60,000, including all design, fabrication, transportation, installation, and a minimum 10% contingency. This project does not include lighting.
