About This Call
The Coeur d'Alene Arts Commission invites artists and artist teams to submit qualifications for a public art project on the East exterior wall of a new public parking structure located at Fourth Street and Coeur d'Alene Avenue in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. The goal is to significantly beautify one of the primary pedestrian and vehicle passageways of the downtown core. The art will be installed vertically, anchored onto a wall made of concrete masonry blocks. Submissions of murals painted directly onto the wall will not be considered. Project area dimensions will be provided when determined; submitted designs should be configured to cover the majority of the installation area.
There is no theme for this project; however, the work should be appropriate for viewers of all ages, should reflect the vibrant beauty of the downtown community, and leave a lasting impression on all who view it. Artwork must be original works that do not contain advertising, religious art, sexual content, negative imagery, or convey political partisanship. The chosen art will be for exterior installation and requires durability to withstand the elements in the Inland Northwest. Selected artists will be responsible for providing all equipment and materials needed to safely execute the project.
Initial submissions must include a one-page cover letter, a resume reflecting experience in public art submission and installation, up to six images of previous work, and a summary (not more than two pages) of experience fabricating and installing permanent outdoor artwork with up to six supporting projects. Supportive information should include title, commissioning body, project budget, date, materials, and client contact information. Special regard will be given to similar successful projects installed in the Northwest region and successful experience working with local governmental or municipal agencies. The Selection Committee will review eligible submissions and select up to five finalists to develop proposals. Each finalist will receive a $1,000 honorarium. The budget for the project is $75,000, inclusive of all artist costs including design, management fees, fabrication, transportation, delivery, installation, and insurance. All finalist proposals must include a 10% contingency. The timeline includes finalist notification by March 12, 2021, finalist proposals due May 28, 2021, public comment in June 2021, final selection in July 2021, contract issuance in August 2021, and art completion and installation in March/April 2022.
