About This Call
The City of Coeur d'Alene seeks to commission an artist or artist team to create an outdoor sculptural installation for the Four Corners Gateway Public Art Project. The artwork will be installed at a major portal intersection in the city (Northwest Boulevard, Government Way, and Fort Grounds Drive) and will become the property of the City of Coeur d'Alene. The site is near the Human Rights Education Institute, Memorial Field, and the Carousel, in a historic neighborhood with significance to the Coeur d'Alene Tribe.
The artwork should provide a welcome to the neighborhood and city while affirming the community's commitment to human rights, social and economic justice, dignity, diversity, and the elimination of racism. The design should require minimum maintenance and withstand the Pacific Northwest's extreme seasonal changes and environmental elements. The budget for this project is $75,000, inclusive of all costs: design, management fees, subcontracts, fabrication, lighting, transportation, delivery, installation, liability, insurance, and all other associated costs. All proposals must include a 10% contingency within the overall budget.
This project is open to all artists who are legal US residents, age 18 and over. The submission deadline is September 10, 2020. Up to five finalists will be selected to develop proposals and will each receive a $1,000 honorarium. Finalists must provide detailed sketches, materials list, renderings, narration, budget, schedule, and a 3-D model. Submissions should include a one-page cover letter, resume (not longer than 1,000 words), and a summary (not more than two pages) of experience fabricating and installing permanent outdoor artwork with a budget of at least $50,000. Up to six images may be submitted with annotated information. The artwork must be original, may not contain advertising, religious references, political messages, sexual content, or violence, and must meet all applicable city building codes.
