About This Call

The City of Fort Collins, Colorado, Art in Public Places Program seeks an artist or artists to collaborate with the Fort Collins Discovery Museum Project Team on overall project design and site-integrated artwork(s). The budget is up to $450,000 and is all-inclusive, covering artist's design fee, travel, materials, fabrication costs, documentation, and transportation and installation of work.

The Fort Collins Discovery Museum is a new partnership between the Discovery Science Center and the Fort Collins Museum, blending science and history through hands-on experiences and artifact collections. The facility will be located near the northwest corner of College Ave. and Cherry Street, adjacent to the Cache La Poudre River and Lee Martinez Park. The selected artist(s) will work with the Project Team to develop artistic experiences that educate and engage the community, with a focus on an iconic art piece with an educational water theme (water conservation, water quality, watershed, etc.). The artwork(s) must be durable, low maintenance, and appropriate to the location, intended as a permanent addition to the City of Fort Collins.

Eligibility: Open to all professional artists legally residing in and authorized to work in the United States. Artist(s) must demonstrate proven ability to successfully develop art concepts within a collaborative design/build team process, successful completion of large-scale public art projects on schedule and within budget, and ability to communicate ideas in written, oral, and graphic formats. Availability to start design work in March 2010 is required. Application materials include a letter of intent (not to exceed 2,000 characters), résumé, six images of relevant work completed within the past ten years, image identification list, and three references. Applications must be submitted via CaFE at callforentry.org by March 9, 2010 at 11:59:59 p.m. MST. Questions should be directed to Ellen Martin at [email protected] or (970) 416-2789.
