About This Call
For the Seventh Generation is a community art project dedicated to ocean protection, featuring a two-foot by mile-long painting representing the California, Oregon, and Washington coastlines. Each artist creates a four-foot section depicting a specific location on the West Coast of the United States. The project extends through the twenty-first century as a voice for environmental protection and serves as a fundraiser, with 30% of panel sales donated to a nonprofit ocean protection organization of the artist's choice.
Artwork must be created on 1/2" wood panels measuring 48" across by 24" high in horizontal orientation. All artistic styles are accepted, including abstract interpretations. Oil and/or acrylic paint are preferred; watercolors, graphite, and paper are not accepted. Panels must be framed, wired, and without glass for gallery display. Before beginning work, artists must email their first and second choice coastal locations to [email protected], as not all locations are available.
The gallery exhibition is scheduled for Fall 2020 (dates subject to change due to COVID-19). Fifty finalists will be selected for inclusion. Three $250 awards are available for top selections. Up to five finalists may also participate in satellite shows, displaying 3-5 additional original artworks unrelated to the project. For satellite show consideration, submit 5-15 additional images. Accepted artwork must be delivered in person or by mail between September 2-23, 2020. Artists will be notified of selections by August 19th. Sales of Seventh Generation panels are split 30% to the artist, 30% to Elisabeth Jones Art Center, and 30% to the artist's chosen ocean protection nonprofit. Entry fee: $20. Submit 1-20 images of your work.
