Food for Thought

Webster Arts is accepting submissions for Food for Thought, a national summer art exhibition about food. The exhibition is open to all artists aged 18 or older residing in the US or abroad. Throughout art history and across many artistic genres, food and beverages appear in visual art. The juror will consider works of art inspired by food items and related food themes such as food production, labor in food industries including farming and restaurants, economic trade and food, food insecurity, food as a method of exploring cultures, the psychology of food, and much more. All media are accepted with the exception of video.

Entry fee is $25 for up to three entries, with $5 for each additional entry up to a total of 10 images. Submit up to 10 JPEG digital images (1000 to 1920 pixels on the longest side, 72 ppi/dpi resolution, 5 MB maximum file size). The submission deadline is May 23, 2021. Artists will be notified by email on June 1, 2021. Exhibition dates are June 22 – August 6, 2021, held at Old Orchard Gallery. In-person delivery of artwork is scheduled for June 15-16, 2021, with a deadline of June 16 for shipped artwork. An opening reception will be held on June 29, 2021. In-person pick-up is August 9-11, 2021, with shipping back beginning that week.

The exhibition will consist of two- and three-dimensional work in all media. Wall pieces must be wired for hanging and no larger than 48" X 48". Free-standing pieces may not exceed 32" X 32" X 60" or weigh more than 50 lbs. No floor or ceiling installed work. All work must be the original conception and execution of the artist listed on the application. No reproductions or photographs printed on canvas without prior permission. Work previously exhibited in any Webster Arts gallery, including Paint Webster, is not eligible. An independent juror will select work for inclusion in the exhibit and for cash prizes. Artists may be selected for solo or 2-3 person shows in the future. Webster Arts receives a 30% commission on all exhibition sales.
