About This Call
Focus: Shadow and Light is a photography exhibition exploring how shadow and light are interpreted by contemporary photographers. The theme emphasizes how shadows enhance relationships between subjects, give definition and dimension, and complement light values. Photographers are encouraged to submit work exploring dramatic shadows and patterns in black and white or ethereal and moody shadows and textures in color photography.
The exhibition will be juried by Todd Johnson, founder and director of Black Box Gallery, who holds an MFA in Photography from the San Francisco Art Institute and has 15 years of experience as a college photography instructor in Portland. The juror will select 24 photographs for exhibition at the gallery (May 1-20, 2018) and an additional 30 photographs for the online gallery annex. An opening reception will be held Friday, May 4, 6-8:00 pm. All 54 selected photographs will be included in a catalog available for purchase on Blurb Books.
Black Box Gallery provides free printing, matting, and framing for all exhibitions using archival inkjet printing on Epson Premium Luster Photo paper. Selected photographers must provide high-resolution TIFF or JPEG files. Exhibition prints will be kept in flat files after the show for future promotion and sales. Black Box Gallery takes a 50% commission on all sales, with 50% going to the photographer. All rights remain with the photographer, and no sale or printing of files will occur without prior consent. Entry fee is $35.00. Submit 1-5 images. International eligibility.
