About This Call

Established in 1988, the Arts at the Airport Foundation showcases Tennessee's cultural heritage and creative talents through rotating public art exhibitions and permanent acquisitions at Nashville International Airport. The Flying Solo Exhibition Series, developed in 1996, provides a highly visible venue for Tennessee artists and offers visitors a taste of the region's rich art and craft culture.

Each exhibit runs for four months. Several exhibition spaces are available following recent BNA Vision construction/renovation projects: six spaces accommodate two-dimensional artwork and one exhibits three-dimensional work. Concourse D features a 10 ft. wide x 7 ft. high x 21 inches deep case suitable for three-dimensional objects and two-dimensional artwork. Two Art Walls in Concourse D (10 ft. wide x 7 ft. high each) are available for two-dimensional work only. Additional spaces include a curved wall in the A/B Waiting Area (35 ft. wide x 12 ft. high) and four separate exhibit spaces in the Level 1 Waiting Area (30 ft. wide x 6 ft. high each), both for two-dimensional artwork only. Two-dimensional artwork must be framed or protected by plexiglass with a profile less than 4 inches including frame and molding.

Artwork must be framed and ready to display. Artists are responsible for delivering and picking up artwork from BNA. An honorarium ranging from $750 to $1,500 is awarded to exhibiting artists. Individual artists, arts-related community groups, and schools are eligible to apply. Applicants must be Tennessee residents or demonstrate a strong connection to Tennessee through prior residency or their artwork. Submissions must include 7 digital images of representative work, a brief artist statement (1000 character limit), a short bio (1-2 paragraphs), a résumé or curriculum vitae (not exceeding 2 pages), and responses to short answer questions about connection to Tennessee. The entry deadline is August 8, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Jury dates are August 9-18, 2025.
