Flux: Wax in All Forms

Flux: Wax in All Forms is an exhibition showcasing diverse and innovative approaches to creating 2-D and 3-D art with wax, including encaustic, cold wax, cast wax, and wax sculpture. Artists are invited to submit original paintings, drawings, sculptures, hand-pulled prints, textile art, fiber art, and installation with wax as a primary element. Entries are open to visual artists internationally. The exhibition will be produced as a physical gallery installation if the public health environment allows; if not feasible, it will be produced as a virtual, online exhibition. Exhibition dates: June 20 – August 2, 2020. Juror: Sara Post, a nationally recognized abstract painter working in oil and water-based mixed media.

Submission requirements: Artists may submit one application with up to 3 artworks. Submit 1-6 images (minimum 1 MB, maximum 5 MB per file). For 2-D work, submit at least one photo per artwork; for 3-D work, submit 2 images per artwork. Video, sound, and installation entries require a still image of the gallery setup or installation mock-up. A brief optional concept statement may be submitted. Entry fee: $45 for non-members or $35 for Arts Benicia members (1-3 artworks). Entry fees are not refundable. Deadline for entries: April 28, 2020 at 10:59 PM Pacific Time. Online judging: April 29 - May 10. Artists notified: May 12.

For physical exhibitions: Hand-delivered artwork accepted Wednesday, June 10, 2-6 pm. Shipped artwork received June 10-11. Preview: Thursday, June 18, 6-7 pm (members and exhibiting artists). Opening Public Reception: Saturday, June 20, 4-6 pm. Free Family Art Day: Sunday, July 19, 1-3 pm. Artwork pick-up: Wednesday, August 5, 2-6 pm. Shipped artwork return begins August 5. Ceiling height: 20 feet; wall heights: 8-14 feet. Arts Benicia provides pedestals for 3-D work. Ceiling-hung works, 3-D work that cannot be on a pedestal, and video works require prior contact with Arts Benicia staff at [email protected].
