About This Call

Flux Projects and the Freedom Park Conservancy are issuing a joint call for proposals for temporary public art projects in Freedom Park during summer 2012. Freedom Park, located on 210 acres surrounding Freedom Parkway in Atlanta, reflects the city's rich history and legacy of human rights. The park was established in 1992 and designated as an Art Park by the City of Atlanta in 2006.

Applicants are invited to submit innovative projects that engage a broad audience. Projects should be able to engage the park and its audience for at least a month, have high visibility, and be experienced by pedestrian, bike, and vehicular traffic. Installations can be purely visual or include performance or other audience interactive components. Any artist, artist team, creative collaborative, or curator may apply; individual applicants or at least one team member must be 18 years of age. Proposed projects can focus on any form of visual art, performance, or other innovative audience interaction.

The maximum budget is $10,000, all-inclusive per project, covering design, materials, construction/fabrication, transportation, delivery, site preparation, lighting, equipment, insurance, consultant fees, installation and de-installation, travel, and other associated costs including artist and curator fees. Applicants do not need to identify a specific site within the park to apply. The selected project must be permitted through the City of Atlanta's Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs; Flux Projects and the Freedom Park Conservancy will orchestrate and cover the cost of the permit. Selection criteria include artistic merit, accessibility to a public audience, appropriateness for location, feasibility of construction/production, and public safety/welfare. Submission deadline: January 27, 2012. Notification: February 15, 2012. Work samples: 1-6 total (maximum 6 images, 2 audio files, 2 video files).
