About This Call
Flux Projects is accepting proposals for FLUX 2012, a one-night public art event on Saturday, October 6, 2012, from 8:00 p.m. until midnight in the Castleberry Hill Arts District. The event features large and small-scale projections, performances, dance, music, light and sound installations, and other multi-media works and public interactions.
Flux Projects is interested in artistically compelling works that are creative in their approach to public space and human interaction and address a broad audience. Projects involving community participation or addressing social concerns are encouraged. The organization prefers projects that run continuously throughout the evening, though shorter projects will be considered. Both pivotal works with high impact and smaller works that activate the street atmosphere are sought.
Any artist, artist team, creative collaborative, or curator may submit projects. Individual applicants or at least one team member must be 18 years of age. Proposed projects can focus on any form of visual art or performance, including sound installations. Flux Projects will award commissions from $100 to $30,000 with no fixed number of projects designated. Applicants requesting $10,000 or more should have experience working in the public realm. More projects will be funded in the $2,500 to $10,000 range than in the $15,000 to $30,000 range. The budget is all-inclusive, covering design, materials, construction/fabrication, transportation, delivery, site preparation, lighting, equipment, insurance, consultant fees, installation and de-installation, travel, and other associated costs including artist and curator fees.
Submissions must include 1-6 artwork samples: up to 6 images (at least one should be a sketch of the proposed project), up to 2 audio files, and up to 2 video files. All work samples must be uploaded through CaFE. Deadline for submission is February 29, 2012. Notification of selections will be April 30, 2012. Selection criteria include artistic merit, accessibility to a public audience, appropriateness for the event, feasibility of construction, and public safety/welfare.
