Florida Highwaymen Museum Mural

The City of Fort Pierce is seeking artists to contribute to a mural project celebrating the Highwaymen—a group of 26 African-American artists who profoundly impacted Florida's art scene in the mid-20th century. The mural will be painted on the exterior south and east walls of the newly renovated Florida Highwaymen Museum, located at 1234 Avenue D, Fort Pierce, FL 34950. The mural area measures approximately 19 feet in height and 51 feet in width, providing about 969 square feet of space.

This call is open to both well-established and emerging artists skilled at working with large-scale paintings and mural techniques, with familiarity with building surface preparation and finishing methods. Artists from Fort Pierce and surrounding areas are strongly encouraged to apply. Collaborations between artists with complementary skills are welcomed. The project budget is $20,000 - $25,000.

Applications must include: a resume or CV, three examples of previous mural projects, three references from former clients, a proposal that includes the artist's fee, costs for materials and supplies, and travel expenses, and an estimated timeline for completion. Applicants must submit three work samples (images). Entry deadline is March 19, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. MDT.
