About This Call
Flora Obscura explores the quiet mystery and beauty of nature through contemporary-traditional fine art. The exhibition celebrates the enduring connection of humanity and the natural world, revealing the hidden poetry of gardens and wild places. Artworks may include shadowed forest paths, windswept coastlines, intimate floral studies, contemplative figures in nature, tide pools filled with sea flora, coastal bluffs overgrown with wildflowers, home gardens, vineyards and orchards, botanical specimens in jars, still lifes of harvests or floral arrangements, and popular botanical gardens such as Descanso Gardens, California Botanic Garden, Japanese Gardens, Arboretums, and Nature preserves. All genres will be considered, but artwork must contain a floral element to fit the theme.
Open to current and active juried Artists, Out-of-State Artists, Mentorship Program Artists, and Signature Artists of the California Art Club. Associate Artists and non-members are not eligible. Medium: Oil, watercolor, pastel, gouache, or acrylic. Unframed dimensions must not exceed 25 inches on the longest side. Only 35 works maximum will be selected. All artwork must be for sale. Entry fee is $30 for one entry, with $8 per additional entry. There is no entry limit to submissions. Images must be jpg and under 4 mb; for best results, images should be at least 1920 pixels on the longest side @ 72 dpi.
Submission deadline: Wednesday, November 4, 2026. Artists will be notified via email on or around Monday, November 16, 2026. Exhibition dates: January 28 through May 16, 2027 at California Art Club Gallery at The Old Mill, 1120 Old Mill Road, San Marino, CA 91108. Artwork drop-off: Monday, January 25, 10:00 am to 12 noon. Out-of-town artists must ship artwork to Box and Ship in Pasadena, CA between December 1 through January 22. Artists' reception: Thursday, January 28, 5:30–7:30 p.m. Artwork pick-up: Monday, May 1, 2027, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Commission split: 60% Artist, 20% Old Mill, 20% CAC.
