About This Call
The Flint Print Club (FPC) at the Flint Institute of Arts Museum + Art School seeks an artist printmaker to produce an exclusive print edition for the Club's members and the Museum's permanent collection. The selected artist will produce an edition of 75 signed and numbered impressions for FPC members and the FIA, with one print accessioned into the FIA's permanent collection. The artist will also receive an agreed upon number of artist proofs for their own use.
The commission award includes a $5,000 honorarium, up to $1,500 budget for supplies and printing, and the opportunity to give an artist talk and demo at FIA (for an additional $1,200 stipend with travel expenses covered). The artist will deliver the final print edition by October 31, 2025, and visit the museum in early November 2025. Artwork must utilize traditional hand printed media as its primary technique, including screen print, etching, engraving, drypoint, photopolymer, photogravure, collagraph, stone lithography, plate lithography, woodcut, linocut, and letterpress. Digital output elements may be included within the greater work. Prints should not exceed 24x36 inches. The proposal must be approved by FIA Curatorial Staff and the Executive Director before production begins. Upon completion, the FIA assumes the right to reproduce the image for promotional and educational purposes, while the artist is entitled to keep and distribute artist proofs at their discretion. The artist is not permitted to produce subsequent editions of the work after completion of the commission.
Applications require 10–15 images of work (with title, year, medium, and scale), CV/resume, artist statement (max 500 words), proposal/statement of intent (max 300 words), and a $35 entry fee. Emerging and mid-career artists are encouraged to apply. Artists must reside and be eligible to work in the United States or Canada. All portfolio artworks must be original works, with the majority utilizing traditional hand printed media as primary technique. Entry deadline is May 18, 2025. Selected artist will be notified in early June 2025. Only one submission per artist is permitted, and entry fees are non-refundable.
