About This Call
The Flint Print Club at the Flint Institute of Arts Museum + Art School seeks an artist printmaker to produce an exclusive print edition for the Club's members and the Museum's permanent collection. The selected artist will produce an edition of 75 signed and numbered impressions for the Club and an agreed upon number of artist proofs. One print from the edition will be accessioned into the FIA's permanent collection.
The award includes a $5,000 honorarium, a $1,500 budget for supplies and printing, and coverage of travel expenses (airfare, hotel, meals, and shipping). The selected artist will deliver a lecture or demo during a one-time visit to the museum and will be expected to actively engage on social media throughout the project. The proposal must be approved by FIA Curatorial Staff and the Executive Director before production begins. Upon completion, the FIA assumes the right to reproduce the image for promotional and educational purposes, while the artist retains the artist proofs. The artist is not permitted to produce subsequent editions of the work after the Commission.
Eligibility: Emerging and mid-career artists are encouraged to apply. Artists must reside and be eligible to work in the United States or Canada. All portfolio artworks must be original works utilizing traditional hand printed media as the primary technique. The commissioned work must utilize traditional hand printed media as its primary technique (including screen print, etching, engraving, drypoint, photopolymer, photogravure, collagraph, stone lithography, plate lithography, woodcut, linocut, and letterpress), though digital output elements may be included. Artwork composed solely of inkjet, laser prints, pigmented prints, risograph, photocopy, or giclée reproductions will not be accepted. Application Requirements: 10–15 images of your work (include title, year, medium, and scale), CV/Resume, Artist Statement (500 words), Proposal/Statement of Intent (300 words), and $35 entry fee. The FIA reserves 25 fee waivers for ALAANA/BIPOC and/or LGBTQIA+ artists; requests are accepted on a rolling basis. Important Dates: Proposal Due April 15, 2024; Selected Artist Notified May 15, 2024; Proposal Image Due August 1, 2024; Artist Lecture/Demo TBD (flexible dates in July or August 2024); Print Edition Due November 1, 2024.
