Flights of Fancy: Unexpected Works of Whimsy

Flights of Fancy is an annual exhibition at the Northbrook Public Library, now in its 13th year. The show runs October 9 - November 20, 2015, and is open to artists 18 years and older. All 2D and 3D entries must be original and executed within five years of the entry date, and must not have been previously displayed at the Library. The winning piece will be purchased for permanent display in the Library.

The exhibition theme is "Flights of Fancy: Unexpected Works of Whimsy." Artists are encouraged to submit works that embrace unconventional or repurposed materials and take the viewer to a place of uninhibited whimsy and wonder. All subjects and media are considered. 2D and 3D works must not exceed 52" in any dimension (framed/finished). 3D work must be moveable by one person and must be stable and not present a danger to library patrons. Artists may include their own pedestal for display. Art will be judged on merit and how well it fits the theme. The exhibition is open to the general public and artwork must be viewable by all ages.

Entry fee is $40. A maximum of 5 entries per artist will be judged. Submit 1-5 images online at www.callforentry.org as 72 dpi JPG files not exceeding 3 MB. Application and payment must be received by May 31, 2015. Awards include: $2,000 purchase prize, $1,000 second place, $500 third place, and $200 Viewer's Choice. The NPL does not charge a commission on sales. All selected artists will be included in an online exhibition catalog with links to their websites for one year, and will receive one poster and 15 postcards for promotional purposes. Shipped work must be received by October 2. Hand-delivered works must be picked up November 23 - December 4 during library business hours (M-F 9-5).
