About This Call
Flanders Nature Center and Land Trust, in conjunction with Blue Horse Arts Studio in Watertown, Connecticut, seeks artwork for an exhibition running June 2-22, 2013. Artists are challenged to create works of art inspired by nature and/or critical environmental issues, specifically addressing the "Plight of the Pollinators." This call is open to all artists working in a variety of media, including professionals and students. One third of the food we eat is directly the result of the habits of pollinators within our ecosystems. These creatures are on the decline due to habitat loss, chemical use, invasive species, and disease. Artists are invited to submit work that creatively interprets this issue or visually celebrates pollinators.
Work samples may include images, audio, or video (up to 3 of each format, with a minimum of 1 and maximum of 3 total samples). Entry fee is $25.00. A panel of jurors from both the disciplines of art and science will select works for the exhibition. All participating artists will have the opportunity to be exhibited online through Flickr, accessible through the Flanders Nature Center and Land Trust website for a six-month viewing period. Awards for adult artists and professionals will be announced, and a Natalie Van Vleck Student Award will be offered in honor of Natalie Van Vleck, artist and founder of Flanders Nature Center, for an outstanding piece reflecting the spirit of the challenge.
Entry fees and partial proceeds from the sale of work at the exhibition will benefit the Flanders Nature Center & Land Trust's environmental education programs.
