First City Public Sculpture Exhibition 2022

The Public Art Project in Vincennes, Indiana invites sculptors from across the nation to submit large-scale public sculptures for the First City Public Sculpture Exhibition 2022. This is the third year of a three-year project managed by a consortium of four local galleries: Art Space Vincennes, LLC (project director), Northwest Territory Art Guild Gallery, Open Gallery, and Shircliff Gallery (part of Vincennes University). Selected sculptures will be installed in outdoor settings throughout the city and loaned for a three-year period, after which artists may retrieve their work if not sold.

Artists may submit up to two entries with a $10.00 entry fee per sculpture. Submissions must include 3-6 digital images showing the sculpture from all sides, dimensions in H" x W" x D" format, artist statement, bio, resume, and description of any special installation requirements. All work must be original, exhibition-ready, available for sale, and able to withstand unsupervised foot traffic and severe weather conditions without requiring maintenance beyond annual cleaning. Works should be fitted with tabs and anchor bolts for attachment to concrete pads.

Selected artists will receive an honorarium of $1,650.00 to help defray transportation and installation costs, distributed in three installments: $550.00 at installation, $550.00 one year later, and $550.00 at pickup. The exhibition will be juried in a three-step process with entries presented anonymously to a panel of arts professionals who will determine finalists, followed by final selection and site determination by the full Public Sculpture Project committee. City officials will review accepted entries for safety and installation issues. The submission deadline is May 9, 2022. Notifications will be sent June 15, 2022. Sculpture pickup is scheduled for August 12 & 13, 2025. Sales will be encouraged, with the Public Sculpture Project retaining a 25% commission on works sold.
