About This Call
The Public Art Project in Vincennes, Indiana invites sculptors from across the nation to submit up to two entries for the First City Public Sculpture Exhibition. This second year of a three-year project brings large-scale public sculpture into outdoor settings throughout the city. The project is managed by a consortium of four local galleries: Art Space Vincennes, LLC (project director); Northwest Territory Art Guild Gallery; Open Gallery; and Shircliff Gallery (part of Vincennes University).
Selected sculptures will be on loan for three years, after which they will be picked up by artists and new works rotated in. Each selected artist will receive an honorarium of $1,650.00 to help defray costs of transportation and installation, distributed in three installments: $550.00 at installation, $550.00 one year later, and $550.00 at pickup. Artists will receive one complimentary exhibition publication and may purchase additional copies. The Public Sculpture Project will handle all sales and retain a 25% commission on works sold.
All work must be original, exhibition-ready, and available for sale. Sculptures must be able to withstand unsupervised foot traffic, severe weather conditions, and pose no threat to public safety. Works should be fitted with tabs for attachment to concrete pads with anchor bolts and must not require maintenance beyond annual cleaning. Artists are responsible for installation and removal by appointment and for any expenses related to repair. The entry fee is $10.00. Submissions include three digital images showing different views (plus up to three optional detail images), dimensions in H" x W" x D" format, artist statement, bio, resume, and description of any special installation issues. The submission deadline is May 3, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. MDT through CallForEntry.org. Notifications will be sent June 4, 2021. Installation is scheduled August 1 - September 4, 2021, with an outdoor reception tentatively scheduled for September 2021. Sculpture pickup is scheduled August 12 & 13, 2024.
