About This Call

The Public Art Project in Vincennes, Indiana presents an opportunity for sculptors from across the nation to submit up to two entries to the First City Public Sculpture Exhibition. The project was formed in 2019 with the goal of bringing public art into the City of Vincennes and is managed by a consortium of four local galleries: Art Space Vincennes, LLC (project director); Northwest Territory Art Guild Gallery; Open Gallery; and Shircliff Gallery (part of Vincennes University). Large-scale public sculptures will be installed in outdoor settings throughout the city and will be on loan for a three-year period, after which they will be picked up by the artists and new works will be rotated in.

Eligibility requirements include: all work must be original and exhibition ready; work must be available for sale; work must be able to withstand unsupervised foot traffic, severe weather conditions, and pose no threat to public safety; work must not require maintenance beyond annual cleaning; and work must be exhibited for the full three-year loan period. Works should be fitted with tabs for attachment to concrete pads with anchor bolts unless the configuration is inherently stable. No size parameters are specified.

Entry fees are $25.00 for the first sculpture and $15.00 for a second sculpture. Each selected artist will receive an honorarium of $1,500.00 to help defray costs of transportation and installation, distributed in three installments: $500.00 at installation, $500.00 one year later, and $500.00 at pickup. Submissions must include three to six digital images, dimensions, artist statement, bio, resume, and description of any special installation issues. The submission deadline is August 14, 2020. Notifications to sculptors will be sent September 14, 2020, with delivery and installation scheduled for October 16 & 17, 2020. An outdoor reception is tentatively scheduled for October 17, 2020. The Public Art Project will handle all sales and retain a 25% commission on works sold.
