About This Call
Saratoga Clay Art Center's national juried exhibition, FIRED/ON, curated by Vermont potter and artist Jessica Putnam-Phillips, seeks functional or vessel-oriented ceramic works that explore surface decoration using decals and image transfers.
The exhibition focuses on the use of decals and/or image transfers on their own or combined with other surface decoration techniques, including underglaze decals, monoprint or screen-print transfers, laser decals, overglaze decals, commercial decals, or any other type of decal or image transfer. All work must be functional or vessel-oriented. Submissions should range from complex narratives to minimalist expressions utilizing and celebrating the possibilities of these varied surface techniques.
Juror Jessica Putnam-Phillips is a ceramic artist, USAF veteran, and educator with an MFA from the Art Institute of Boston and BA from UNC-Wilmington. She was a resident artist at the Saratoga Clay Art Center and AIR Vallauris, France. Her work has been exhibited at the Museum of Craft and Design, the Craft and Folk-Art Museum, the American Museum of Ceramic Art, and the Veterans' Art Museum. She is founder of ClayShare, an online school for ceramic learning, and a past winner of the Zanesville Prize.
Entry fee is $30 for up to 3 works. Applicants must provide a biography, artist statement, and for each work, a title, description (medium/process), dimensions, and weight. The exhibition runs April 30 - June 11, 2023. Open to artists over 18 residing within the United States and Canada.
