About This Call
The Film Photo Award offers two award periods per year, providing grants of Kodak Professional Film and complementary film processing by Griffin Editions to photographers demonstrating serious commitment to film-based photography. The award is open to all emerging, established, and student photographers worldwide, 18 years old or older.
During each spring and fall award cycle, three Film Photo Awards will be granted: two Visionary Project Awards and one Student Project Award. Each award includes Kodak Professional Film (applicants choose from 35mm, 120, or 4x5 formats), film processing with Griffin Editions, an exclusive feature published in Lenscratch, and an interview published on the Film Photo Award website and social media. The Student Project Award winner also receives a 4x5 view camera from Standard Cameras. Three finalists in each category receive acknowledgment on the Film Photo Award's website and social media.
Visionary Project Award applicants must be emerging or established photographers, 18 years old or older. Student Project Award applicants must be currently enrolled at an institution of higher education at the time of submission and provide a scanned image of their student ID. Both award types allow recipients to choose 100 rolls of 35mm, 100 rolls of 120, or 200 sheets of 4x5 film. Applicants submit a project proposal (not exceeding 4000 characters), CV/resume or bio (not exceeding 2 pages), and 1-15 JPEG images (1200 pixels on longest dimension, 72 ppi). Entry fees are $35 for the Visionary Project Award and $25 for the Student Project Award. Up to 5 applications per applicant are allowed. Recipients agree to commence or continue the proposed work during the year following receipt and will donate one print to the Film Photo Award Archive at the conclusion of their one-year grant period. Past recipients are ineligible to receive the award again for three years.
