About This Call
The Film Photo Award offers two award cycles per year, providing grants of professional photographic film and complementary film processing by Griffin Editions to photographers demonstrating serious commitment to film-based photography. The award is open to all emerging, established, and student photographers based in the United States, 18 years old or older.
During each spring and fall award period, three film grants will be awarded: 2 Visionary Project Awards and 1 Student Project Award. Each award includes a choice of black and white film (100 rolls of 35mm, 100 rolls of 120, or 200 sheets of 4x5) or color film (75 rolls of 35mm, 75 rolls of 120, or 150 sheets of 4x5), plus film processing with Griffin Editions, an exclusive feature published in Lenscratch, and an interview published on the Film Photo Award website and social media. The Student Project Award winner also receives a new 4x5 camera from Standard Cameras. Finalists in each category receive acknowledgment on the Film Photo Award website and social media.
The Visionary Project Award supports photographers in their continued use of film and is open to emerging or established photographers. The Student Project Award is designed to help student photographers begin or continue a film photography project; applicants must be currently enrolled at an institution of higher education and provide a scanned image of their student ID. Entry fees are $35 for the Visionary Project Award and $25 for the Student Project Award. Applicants may submit up to 3 applications and up to 15 images. The submission deadline is December 1, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. EST. Awards will be announced and film shipped in December 2024. Recipients agree to commence or continue the proposed work during the year following receipt and will donate one print to the Film Photo Award Archive at the conclusion of their one-year grant period.
