About This Call
The Film Photo Award offers two award periods per year, providing grants of Kodak Professional Film and complementary film processing by Griffin Editions to photographers demonstrating serious commitment to film-based photography. The award is open to all emerging, established, and student photographers worldwide, 18 years old or older.
During each spring and fall award cycle, three Film Photo Awards are granted: two Visionary Project Awards and one Student Project Award. Visionary Project Award winners can choose to receive either 100 rolls of 35mm film, 100 rolls of 120 film, or 200 sheets of 4x5 film. The Student Project Award is open to currently enrolled students and includes the same film options plus a 4x5 view camera from Standard Cameras. Each award includes Kodak Professional Film, film processing with Griffin Editions, an exclusive feature published in Lenscratch, and an interview published on the Film Photo Award website and social media. Three finalists in each category receive acknowledgment on the website and social media.
Applicants must submit a project proposal (not exceeding 4000 characters), CV/resume/bio, and up to 15 images through the online submission portal. Entry fees are $35 for the Visionary Project Award and $25 for the Student Project Award. Applicants may submit up to 5 applications. Student applicants must provide a scanned image of their student ID to verify current enrollment. Recipients agree to commence or continue the proposed work during the year following receipt of the award and will participate in an interview approximately 8 months after receiving the award. Recipients are asked to donate at least one print to the Film Photo Award Archive at the conclusion of their one-year grant period. Past recipients are ineligible to receive the award again for three years.
