FIERCE and FRAIL: Of Beings, Beasts, and Seed

Verum Ultimum Art Gallery invites artists to explore the theme "FIERCE and FRAIL: Of Beings, Beasts, and Seed" and enter work that is any interpretation of the call. All mediums and modes of expression are encouraged, including narrative, illustrative, conceptual, abstract and beyond. The theme may be interpreted in many ways, not necessarily meant to be literal or didactic. Artists are invited to consider how their work speaks to this theme—whether through subdued or bold manifestation, storytelling, exploration of unknown worlds, borrowing from myth and cultural influences, or engagement with bestiaries, social commentary, and beyond.

Selected artists will be featured in a group exhibition at Verum Ultimum Art Gallery in Portland, Oregon, with an opening reception and online presentation on the gallery website. One artist will be featured in an online blog post interview. The competition is open to all 2D and 3D artists, national and international, working in painting, drawing, photography, graphics, digital, and sculpture. Entrants must be 18 years of age or older. Wall-mounted works must not exceed 60" in height or width. Submit 1-3 digital JPG images with a $35.00 entry fee. Artists will be notified of acceptance by March 7, 2018. Accepted artwork must be received by April 7, 2018. All works in the show must be for sale; the gallery takes a 40 percent commission on sales, with price determined by the artist.
