FIERCE and FRAIL II: Of Beings, Beasts, and Seed

Verum Ultimum Art Gallery invites artists to explore the theme "FIERCE and FRAIL II: Of Beings, Beasts, and Seed" and enter work in any interpretation of the call. All mediums and modes of expression are encouraged, including narrative, illustrative, conceptual, abstract, and beyond. The theme may be interpreted in many ways and is not necessarily meant to be literal or didactic. Artists are invited to explore how their work speaks to this theme through various approaches: depicting complex political narratives, abstract color fields, storytelling, mythological or cultural influences, or social commentary.

The competition is open to all 2D and 3D artists, national and international, working in painting, drawing, photography, graphics, digital media, and sculpture. Entrants must be 18 years of age or older. Selected artists will be featured in a group exhibition at Verum Ultimum Art Gallery in Portland, Oregon, with an opening reception on April 20, 2019 (exhibition runs through May 23, 2019). The exhibition will also be posted on the gallery website, and one artist may be featured in an online blog post interview. Wall-mounted works must not exceed 60" in height or width.

Entry fee is $35.00 for one to three artworks submitted as digital JPG images. Submission deadline is March 9, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Artists will be notified of acceptance by March 30, 2019 via email. All works in the show must be for sale; the gallery takes a 40 percent commission on sales, with artists determining the sale price. Artists accepted to exhibit will not be charged additional fees. Artist retains all copyrights to submitted images and artwork.
