Fiber Focus 2015

Fiber Focus 2015 is a juried exhibition featuring artworks in all media that focus on fiber as media or technique. This is the 20th anniversary presentation of the exhibition, presented in conjunction with the citywide Innovations in Textiles X collaborative event.

Eligibility: Open to artists 21 years of age and older residing in the following 9 Midwest regional states: Arkansas, Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Tennessee. Artists may submit up to 3 original artworks completed between 2012-2015. Contemporary artworks in any fiber media or combination of fiber media will be considered; other media may be incorporated if the central or key element explored is clearly fiber or fiber technique. Video artwork must have a key fiber element. Collaboratives are considered; please list names of all artists who created the artwork. If accepted, the artwork submitted for jurying is the artwork that will be exhibited; no artwork substitutions are accepted.

Specifications: Final installation size not to exceed 6' (72") wide or 7' (84") high. All artwork must be display ready with display hardware included. Quilts and textiles must have accompanying hanging bars or similar installation apparatus provided by the artist. Other 2-D artworks must be framed or have pre-approved presentation. Wearables require a mannequin or appropriate dress form for display. Sculpture that would sit on the floor must have a platform provided by the artist that elevates work minimum 24" off the floor. No ceiling-installed work, no works that sit directly on floor, no works suspended, and no works nailed, pinned, tacked, taped, velcroed, painted on, glued, adhered, or affixed directly to gallery walls. Works not previously exhibited in Art Saint Louis Gallery or in any juried exhibit in the St. Louis region during the 6 months prior to exhibit dates are eligible.

Entry fee: $40 for non-members, $30 for Art Saint Louis members. Submission deadline: June 1, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Judging is done by JPEGs online only. Limit 2 JPEGs per artwork: 1 full view is required and either 1 detail or 1 alternate view is also accepted. JPEG files must be in focus, free of watermarks or name imprints, free of time-date stamps, minimum 1920 pixels on the longest side, 72 ppi/dpi resolution, and maximum 5MB file size. Video files accepted in formats: 3GP, WMV, AVI, MOV, ASF, MPG, MP4, M2T, MKV, M2TS with minimum resolution 620x480 and maximum 1920x1080.

Exhibition dates: August 8-October 8, 2015 at Art Saint Louis Gallery, 1223 Pine Street, downtown St. Louis, Missouri. Free reception: Saturday, October 3, 2015, 6-9 p.m. during the Innovations in Textiles X weekend. Awards selected by juror Marci Rae McDade include a cash Best of Show Award, Awards of Excellence, a $250 Award for Excellence in Woven Tapestry sponsored by the Weavers' Guild of St. Louis given in memory of Helen Wenzel, and a $250 Merit Award for Creative/Innovative Use of Fiber sponsored by Missouri Fiber Artists.
