About This Call
Call for Artists: Art in State Buildings - FGCU Water Resources Building. Florida Gulf Coast University seeks artwork for a new Water Resources Building on its Fort Myers campus. The artwork will be located within the 4-story atrium and adjoining balconies, with other locations considered if the artist presents a compelling idea.
The artwork should reflect the Water School's focus on water issues and stewardship of natural resources. It will not be a traditional water feature, as the institution prefers low-maintenance work. Artwork may be made of various materials including traditional art materials and digital works, and can be two or three-dimensional. The work should be compatible with the facility's aesthetic, may capture metaphors of water or poetic references to the natural environment, and must respect views of indoor and outdoor spaces without blocking the open feeling of the atrium.
Eligibility: Artists or artist teams must have completed public commissions of similar budget, have works in major public, private, corporate, or museum collections, have received awards, grants, or fellowships, or have had a one-person exhibition. The selection process involves two stages. Three finalists will each receive a $500 honorarium to develop a site-specific proposal and present virtually. The artwork commission budget with the selected artist will be $48,500. Entry fee: $10. Submit 3-10 images, 0-3 audio files, and 0-3 video files (15 samples maximum) via Café at www.callforentry.org. Include a letter of interest, professional resume emphasizing public art experience, and image ID information as specified. Finalist notification target: April 2021. Site-specific proposals due: May 2021. Installation target: December 2021. Contact: Mark Flickinger, 727.692.8300.
