Federal Way Arts Explosion 2024

The Federal Way Arts Explosion is a juried arts festival featuring diverse, multi-generational artworks. The festival runs May 29-June 3, 2024, at the Performing Arts and Event Center (PAEC) with three free public viewing days and two invitation-only events.

Adult artists may submit up to five entries across three categories: Photography/Digital artwork, Two-Dimensional artwork, and Three-Dimensional artwork. Youth artists from Federal Way Public High Schools are invited to submit a self-portrait in any medium. Entry fee is $25 per adult submission; youth entries are free with a code from their supervising teacher or by texting 253-225-1041. Total prize money is $4,400: $3,300 for adult artists and $1,100 for youth artists, with awards in each category for First, Second, Third Prize, and People's Choice.

All artwork must be submitted in person and is not accepted via mail or shipping. Artwork must be original, completed within the past three years, and gallery-ready for display. Adult artwork must be completed without instructor supervision. Two-dimensional work may not exceed 5 feet in longest dimension or weigh more than 12 lbs. Three-dimensional work must fit within a 4 x 4 x 9 foot space and weigh less than 200 lbs. Youth self-portraits must be on standard 8" x 10" stretch canvas. All work must be for sale; the Kiwanis Foundation will facilitate sales and retain a 25% commission. Artists will receive payment within 30 days of the festival's end. Acceptance notification will be sent by May 2, 2024.
