About This Call
Dallas Heritage Village seeks an artist to create site-specific art relating to women's history for the exhibition "Purple, Gold, and White: Reflections on Women's Suffrage." A $1,000 honorarium is available, and the selected artist must participate in at least one public program at DHV. The artist will be selected by DHV staff.
Artwork in all media (including installation and performance) should explore issues or tell stories relating to at least one of the following: the women's suffrage movement, voting rights throughout history, or women's political participation today. Art will be exhibited inside selected historic structures at Dallas Heritage Village, an immersive history museum located in the historic Cedars neighborhood with over 20 relocated historic buildings. All exhibition spaces are climate controlled. All two-dimensional art must be properly wired and suitable for hanging. Three-dimensional art must be fully stable to stand on its own or be attached to a stable base. Artists using electronic equipment must provide their own. All art must fit through a door measuring 30 inches by 70 inches. For performance art, a proposed schedule and location should be submitted for consideration.
Submit 2-3 examples of your work (files named lastname_1.jpg), an artist statement (maximum 500 words), and a description of where you are headed with this work and your spark of inspiration. All applicants must consult with DHV staff prior to applying. Entry fee: $10. Entry deadline: January 27, 2020. Selection notification: February 3, 2020. Exhibition dates: March 29, 2020 - July 4, 2020. Reception: Thursday, March 26. Artwork pickup: Thursday, July 9, 4-7 p.m. Half of the honorarium will be paid by February 28; the other half upon installation and completion of one public program. Contact: Melissa Prycer at [email protected] or 214-413-3671, or Elizabeth Qualia at [email protected] or 214-413-3661.
