About This Call
The City of Mountain View Visual Arts Committee seeks to commission an artist or artist team to create public artwork for Fayette Park, a planned neighborhood park located on Fayette Drive between Del Medio Avenue and San Antonio Road. The call is open to all professional artists and artist teams over the age of 18 residing in California.
Applications must be submitted online via CaFÉ at www.callforentry.org between June 1, 2021 at 12:00 noon (PST) and June 28, 2021 at 11:00 p.m. (PST). Only the first 120 applications will be accepted. Applications must include: artist resumé, signed application checklist, five to ten images of current artworks completed within the past three years demonstrating ability to create durable outdoor artwork, a final proposal including artwork design and medium type, and total artwork fee including design, fabrication, transportation, installation, and any required structural engineering costs. Building permit fees will be paid by the City, but the artist is responsible for obtaining the permit and any associated structural engineering services.
The project budget allows for artwork totaling up to $13,000 or up to $26,000. The VAC may select multiple art installations and/or multiple artists. The Fayette Park Conceptual Plan shows approved areas where art can be located. The VAC encourages artwork that incorporates artistic features onto park infrastructure or amenities, such as artistic benches, sidewalks, bike racks, or shade structures. All functional art must be accessible and compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The City intends to bid park construction in early 2022 and complete it in summer 2022, with artwork installation expected during the construction phase. Selected artists will be required to obtain a business license and insurance. All costs associated with visiting the site, preparing proposals, or attending VAC meetings shall be borne by the artist.
